One of the most popular attractions at the The Mirage in Las Vegas is the huge aquarium located behind the hotel’s front desk.
It’s a massive 20,000-gallon saltwater aquarium that is home to variety of sea life including angelfish, puffer fish, tangs and other exotic sea creatures. It’s also filled with vibrantly colored coral and home to several sharks.
The aquarium is managed by The Mirage’s very own in-house aquarists. The aquarium accommodates over 1,000 coral reef animals representing about 60 species from as far away as Australia, Hawaii, Tonga, Fiji, the Red Sea, the Marshall Islands, the Sea of Cortez and the Caribbean.
These sea animals were all selected for their adaptability to the environment and compatibility with other species.
The Mirage Aquarium is truly one of the most elaborate and technically advanced aquariums in the world. The aquarium tank measures 53 feet long, eight feet from top to bottom, and six feet from front to back. The sides are made of 4 inches thick acrylic.
There is no fee to view the aquarium. Seating in the lobby is limited. You can find several bench seats that offer aquarium views directly across from the Registration desk.
